sail chafe

I just replaced a nylon North Sail that had been on my boat since 1997 with the original owner. It was fit on a furling drum. It rubbed on the bow pulpit but showed no significant wear or chafe from where it rubbed. I just bought a Fusion M Carbon/Technora sail as a replacement. I had asked that they cut it so as not to rub the bow pulpit. It was not done correctly and rubs.
Is this a major problem?
Does anyone have experience on chafe from a bow pulpit?
Thanks

Re: sail chafe

Our sails all touch the pulpit at one trim point or another, I have never seen any chafe, only the black discoloration associated with polishing stainless steel.

Re: sail chafe

The great strength of carbon sails tends to make them brittle. They will not respond stand up to that sort of chafe the way a dacron sail will.

Don't accept a sail that was incorrectly built. The loft who built it is responsible to fix it.
