Sail Cloth: help needed Challenge Marblehead vs. High Mass

Hi folks,

I am in the process of buying a new Genoa for my cruising catamaran. I am a cruising sailor on my circumnavigation. I need a good lasting sail (who doesn't ).

Beside selecting the right loft, I am now confronted with the question whether I better opt for Challenge Marblehead quality or their "High Mass" quality.

I do understand that the High Mass has better UV durability and the Marblehead better shrinkage capability.

Which one is the better Sail Cloth for me??????

Any advice is highly appreciated.

BR

Re: Sail Cloth: help needed Challenge Marblehead vs. High Mass

Marblehead Low Aspect. It has far superior stretch characteristics than the other cloth. And the Low Aspect version does fine with UV provided it has good sun protection when not in use. The high aspect version has very small warp yarn bundles, that fail sooner due to UV. If this is a furling genoa, then be sure to have the UV cover sewn on with Tenara to ensure long term UV cover integrity.

Many thanks. Marblehead will be the material I will go for. After a long night of reading and with your advice I came to that conclusion.
