Scissor hook, What is it used for?

Digging through the lockers on my boat I found a rusted scissor hook attached to 50 feet of 1/2 line.

Sorta like this one. <==link

Should I bother replacing it as I have no idea where it is used.

Thanks,

If it is rusty and steel I wouldn't bother. It could have been used for a snubber through your chain links but you'd have to see if it fits.

These are typically used on the winch line to haul a boat onto a trailer. Attached to an eye on the bow. So not really part of the boat.
