I can do eye splices relatively easy and have done some three strand splicing, all with larger diameter rope but this one I would like to do is with small diameter rope and is, for lack of a better term, a side by side splice and I cannot figure it out nor can I find any info on it like I said. I have included a picture of what it looks like, so anyone that can help, I would be very appreciative of! Thank you in advance.
A "side by side" splice for 3 strand :http://wiki.hmssurprise.org/phase3/i...hp/****_splice
Never seen a cu(n)t splice in braid, but sure it could be figured out.
Possibly, use "brummel" splice method??

Re: side by side splice

Looking at the pic, what is the purpose of such a slice?

For forming a spliced eye in the middle of a "rope". Supposedly, this spliced eye will not un-ravel. Used in loglines, etc, which are subject to much twisting. I could see where it could be used anywhere you needed a permanent & strong eye in the standing part of a line-stronger than a knot???
I have never used it myself.
I am quoting from the following :"**** splice/ cuntline"

Sorry about the bad link in my post re HMS SURPRISE-the fictional vessel in "Master & Commander-the Far Side of the World" movie. If you Google cu(n)t / cut splice, you will find the references to this splice.

Re: side by side splice

Thinking on it, a couple of uses of such a splice, or one similar to it, is in Jib Sheet & Assymetrical Spinnaker Sheet Bridles. As seen at Sailboat Running Rigging Splicing Services | APS But I can't imagine that it's much different than what's used in a core to core splice, at least in 12-strand. Or lines which derive all of their strength from their cores, such as Warpspeed.

Thanks! I could not see an eye in the pic. It makes somewhat of some sense that way. I can't see longliners today using it? Thirty or forty miles of line with hooks and high fliers that is a bunch if splices.

Find a copy of The Marlinspike Sailor, by Hervey Garrett Smith. It's in there.

Re: side by side splice

I used a similar splice in three strand nylon line for a Chain Snubbler

I had a chain hook on the single end and the other two ends ran to the right and left bow cleats.

I did this because the bow cleats were so far back that you did not get a straight lead to the chain from either cleat.

Worked great for 10 years, including 3 years of cruising.

Re: side by side splice

Figure out how long you want the two 'legs' to be, make a giant eye splice with the appropriate length of line, when the splice is complete, lock stitch it, cut the braided part back to the desired length (for the size line shown you'll need 3 or 4 feet to accomplish the splice) and whip it. Cut the 'eye' into two equal lengths (or whatever lengths you require) and treat those ends as required...

Re: side by side splice

Who spliced the one in the picture? Hopefully they could tell you how it's done
