Snap schakle for runners/check stays?

Which kind of snap schakle would suite runners and check stay best? With or without swivel?

How to size em? 44ft performance cruising trimaran around 8000 lbs

cheers!

I depends. If you have a block and tackle on the runner before you get to the deck, a swivel would work better.

Ths shock loads on the runners can be quite high, so don't skimp on the shackle.

There are essentially two types: those designed to release under load (for tripping kites etc) and those designed not to release under load (halyards etc). I'm guessing you would expect to ease the runner before you ever wanted to release it and are thus in the second camp. I'd not ever want to pop a runner with the load on...

Personally, as an old racing sailor, I don't think you can get better than Tylaska. The SS10 looks to be sized about right for your use: Tylaska Marine Hardware :: SS10

I've always seen runners and check stays terminate with a block with a swivel attachment to the shackle to allow any twists in the falls of the purchase to work out - at that point you've fewer choices about your snap shackle type. But I guess you might have some sort of soft strop below the tackle that you could put you choice of shackle on.

Have you considered soft shackles? That's what we use. Easy to make, cheap and easy to use. Super strong.

Well, I have thought about it....
Does it work good as snap shackles? What kind of fitting do you attach it to?

I have considered replacing my runners with low friction rings, but not sure I'm going to do it right now.

I use three. One connects the tail double braid to the dynema runner. One for the low friction ring attaching to the chain plate for for retrieval. The last one connects the low friction ring to the same deck pad eye that the hard shackle used to use before I redid my runner's.

Are you using dead eyes to connect to chain plate?
Example of the schackle design you have used? (just with the knob or with a pin?)
