Snapped forestay

I foolishly neglected to lash my forestay sufficiently to mast during transport and ran it over when pulling into launch and subsequently ripping it in half. Does any one know where I can have this rigging ordered and replaced?

You can make your own easily enough. Look at the swaged ends and cable at West Marine's site, then check around to see that they have the best price. You don't even need specialized tools.

I am guessing lots of people know lots of things that would be most helpful to you. If only they knew where in the world you are and with what kind of boat you have damaged that help may be targeted more effectively at you..

Assuming he is in a country where there is a West Marine, or is prepared to do international mail order.

Re: Snapped forestay

I'm in BC, Canada. I sail on Nicola Lake and have a 26s MacGregor. I rigged up a temporary forestay with 5 strand airplane wire and saddle clamps but don't trust it at all to raise any sail on it. I was hoping to be able to order some 12 strand ss wire with properly swagged or crimped ends. Thanks for the west marine reference I'll take a look to see what they may have there. Was hoping for the name of a company I can call and give specs and measurements to and they could ship it up. Anyone know of any companies or outfits that do such fittings?

Any rigging shop online will have what you need. You can order it long and cut it down. There are swage tools for super cheap. Not an expensive fix by any means.

Blue Water Yachts , in Seattle, (over the years one of the largest and best MacGregor dealers) will provide support for all of the MacGregor boats. They can provide the spare parts that you require, plus lots of friendly and competent advice and assistance. If you need parts or help, call them at 800-688-8626, or click on their web site Blue Water Yachts Their email address is boatsales@bwyachts.com

from the now closed MacGreror Yacht web site.

Re: Snapped forestay

Or buy a length of wire and put a Sta-Lok terminal on either end. All you need is a hacksaw and two wrenches (we call 'em 'spanners' ! )
Just too easy.
