Re: So I have Halyard wrap. Now what

When you go up the mast check to see if there are anymore of them and replace with cotter pins

Unwrap, raise the sail up to make head closer to the exit of the halyard then tighten the halyard. You can also install a bar on the side of the top roller that extends up to the halyard exit.
Raising the sail up is the easiest and also allows for easier viewing from helm in front of bow.

Those are impressive photos. What kind of camera/lens were you using?

Photography hobby came long before the sailing one. These halyard wrap photos were really "quick snaps" with my Canon 70D and Canon 70-200 2.8L lens.

I have a Canon SX50HS with a X50 zoom and it is a very impressive piece of gear however the range of functions on it is very intimidating for someone who learned photography on a camera with only limited aperture and exposure controls. My last film camera, a little Canon Ixus was also a fantastic little camera.

Agreed, replace circle pin with cotter pin, circle pins should not be on a boat, second, make up a strop to raise the swivel, or if you could raise the sail, with a strop on the tack, if the sail isn't to high, re: changing the sheet lead.

Unfortunately more and more stuff appears to be provided with the damned things as standard.

Re: So I have Halyard wrap. Now what

Quick update as I finally got to working through it last night.

Dropped the sail and took a trip up to change the pin. Really the pin was the worst of it and should not be an issue any longer. The pin did fray the halyard a bit so I’ll need to fix that.

Put sail back up and tested everything. All works great!

Unfortunately I’ll need to take another trip up the mast at some point as there is a rubber cap on the foil that had basically dried up and fallen off. Was going to probably just cover it with some thing as a replacement. I also want to replace a couple of the other rings with pins but I’ll tell ya, I wasn’t comfortable hanging from the halyard for that long.
