Spinlock XL Replacement Parts??

Hi brainstrust,

I have 2 groups of 5 Spinlock XL jammers/rope clutches on my performance mono. A couple of them have started to slip as the jaws are worn.

Does any one know where to get replacement parts for these older style clutches? Google is not being it's typical helpful self!

Alternatively if there is a way to adjust these ones to perform well again?

Currently located in Queensland, Australia.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Spinlock XL Replacement Parts??

We were able to buy replacement cams from local chandlers a few years back. IIRC they had to order from Spinlock (Whitworths seldom stock replacement parts for anything) but they were available.

Good luck!

Not sure how to. Can't find their contact info anywhere, or an Australian dealer that could be properly helpful...

Thanks Jim. I'm definitely finding Whitworths to be a little lacking on the parts front. The only Spinlock I can find is in the UK. Do you know of anyone in Aus that could assist properly? Someone I can speak to on the phone would be best.
I need to replace the cams and baseplates on 4. According to my local chandler, that's about $800 worth. It's hard to justify spending that much on very old jammers!

Re: Spinlock XL Replacement Parts??

From memory (often misleading) one of the sources we used was the chandler at the Southport YC marina. But this was perhaps 14-15 years ago... and they had to outsource the cams. The other time was Whitworths in, I think, Hobart, also a decade or so back. Sorry I can't be more specific. But it seems that anyone who sells their new stuff should have access to ordering spares... may be pricey, though, as you suggest.

The wear issue is one of the reasons that I now buy Lewmar clutches. Never had any issues with them, and they will release under big loads, which the Spinlocks will not (broke off a handle in the learning process!).

Hope you can find some bits!

Jim

Here you find dealers and service centers https://www.spinlock.co.uk/en/dealers

But I would suggest direct contact by telephone or email: https://www.spinlock.co.uk/en/about-us/contact-us

And https://www.spinlock.co.uk/en/custom...es/pro-support

Here's a link to one of their many videos. This one shows the disassembly, all the parts and reassembly of an XAS Spinlock dual clutch. Nicely done. It also refers to parts "service kits" which are on the website.

There is a chance part # SPICAMXAS will fit the old XL.

Hope this helps.

Let me know if you are unable to find the parts. I have 2 clutches like yours that were never installed. I purchased extras thinking I'd have a use. Time moved on and they have been sitting in the drawer, on board for several years.

Re: Spinlock XL Replacement Parts??

Update: So i ended up buying an XTS service kit for around AU$90. It comes with handle, cam and baseplate. Turns out they are slightly different, but not in the way they function. So, to confirm, the XTS service kit will work with old legacy XL rope clutches. I didn't trying putting the new handle from the service kit in, but when placing it side by side, I cannot see why it would not be a straight swap over too.

Thanks all for your help and suggestions!

I broke my handle to the spinlock xl clutch, does anyone know where to get a new/used one? I would be happy to buy it from one of you! ☺️

Parts are still widely available:

the clutch in the pic looks much more like a spinlock XT. Really hard to break handles on those. They are aluminum!
