Totally agree. A new hole nearby is great. And don’t forget the goop!!
Also agree with regularly exercising it.

Look up dip pole gybe. Done right it is a way to have little to no load on the moving bits during a spinnaker gybe.

Re: Spinnaker pole jaw stuck and proper orientation

I had to do a jury rig during a long passage. The whisker pole was essential. I found the idea long screw and nylock. Complete through bolt and back in business. No tapping SS into aluminum, which obviously can be problematic.

Re: Spinnaker pole jaw stuck and proper orientation

I hv exactly the same problem but of course this often happens when you hv SS and Al together. Pins at BOTH ends of my pole are totally jammed. Hv been trying WD40 every few weeks but never any improvement. Skip (#11) suggested TORQ-CB from Timball Midwest but i have checked availability and it tells me NOT AVAILABLE on Amazon. I am based in UK. It might be that they cannot accept orders from UK. Does anyone know if TORQ-CB is still available in the US?

Re: Spinnaker pole jaw stuck and proper orientation

If you take the end fitting out of the pole you're still stuck to the deck. Why not just remove the bolts and the deck fitting and get the whole Spinnaker pole off your boat so you can do this work in your garage? It would beat getting oil all over your deck or setting fire to the boat as you heat it up.

It looks like the are two nuts holding the bracket to the deck. That would be my play.

And when you rebed it, use the Butyl Tape sold by MaineSails (Rod Collins)!

I was able to get everything unstuck. I live on the boat full time and am currently cruising Mexico so I unfortunately don't have a garage .

I thought about pulling the bracket off, but was able to get it freed up eventually.

I have Mainesails butyl tape on the boat. That stuff is great.

Good to hear! Tell us what worked for you in getting it unstuck.

I look forward to the day that I am garage free.

I soaked it with PB Blaster for two nights and used a socket that was the right size to hit it with a hammer. I was able to get it to move in, but of course it wouldn't move out then.

I tried to remove the screws by hand holding the end in place, but couldn't get them to budge. I sprayed them with PB Blaster and then used my cordless impact driver to get a little percussion. That freed up 3 of them and broke off the last one.

Once I had the end off, I hammered the slide back out and then repeated the process. I also soaked the inside of the hole with PB Blaster and continued to work it until it freed up. Works great now.

Re: Spinnaker pole jaw stuck and proper orientation

Don’t forget the option of “weasel piss”, a homemade concoction of 50:50 acetone and automatic transmission fluid. I always have some on board now along with a couple of syringes. Saved my bacon on a number of horribly corroded bolts on the engine and other places, it’s very effective indeed.
