Splicing -- First Effort With Photos

It was rainy and cold today with sprinkles, so I spent the day inside doing projects, one of which was to make warps for some new fenders I bought. After price shopping online for pre spliced fender lines (~$20 each!), I decided to make my own.

After scrounging around a bit, I found a coil of old three-strand line in a cockpit locker. A few internet videos and several mistakes later, I had four serviceable warps.

For those who are reluctant, it's worth a try. I didn't need any specialized tools -- just my leatherman and some blue tape.

Rookie effort eye-splice and back-splice photos attached. Not pretty, but they'll get the job done.

Thanks all for the kind words. Much appreciated and more than I deserve!
Lesson learned: take baby steps and splice 'em yourself. It's just not that hard!

Well done!

Three strand is super easy to splice and everyone should learn how to do it. A couple of YT videos and you'll be on your way. Will save you money and you'll end up using three strand for a ton of stuff.

Well done!

It's not hard to do with three strand but it is easy to lose the skill if you don't practice. I keep a few old lines around just to practice on since one never knows when you may need to splice something in a hurry.

Great job. Once you master 3-strand, double braid is easy- just some brute force on eye splices to finish it off, and dyneema will require no thought at all.

Post some how to for double braid and dyneema or some links. A bowline sacrifices like 45% of tensile strength

It looks good! I tried it and was pleased with the effort, so I said "Let me try it with dyneema, piece of cake". Famous last words for the rookie splicer....

Amen, I've done it never again. I'd never buy splice three stand or unspliced braided. JMHO
