splicing octoplait/brait rope

I was just wondering if anyone has tried the sort of splice that we use so effortlessly in 12 strand Dyneema, etc, in 8 strand hollow braid?

It would save considerable time in making up dock lines, snubbers etc. I find the tucked eye splice in that kinda rope somewhat trying!.

Anyone?

My Yale Octoplait 1-1/4” is not hollow braid. I hate the eye splice in it, spent hours on one

Not hollow braid??? Ahaa... perhaps that explains why no one does what I was thinking about!

Thanks, Nick... if it is too hard for you, well, if a Jedi cain't do it, I sure am unlikely to be very good at it!

The splice to chain is easy though. I now have that knots and splices app on iPad and phone which makes it easier. For my mooring lines I decided to tie the loops

I haven't found splicing 8=plait all that hard, though the largest I've done was 3/4". I use a hollow fid like you would use for 3-strand, and it isn't much harder, though you do want to keep an eye on the twist of each pair of strands.
And no, it isn't hollow, so the ultra-easy UHMWPE technique won't work

Indeed, my biggest issue was that I did not have the right tools. My hollow fid is too small for the strands of the 1-1/4” Octoplait. Also, the rope was never used when I did that splice somewhere around 2004 but it was 10+ years old which also makes it stiffer. Our boat came with 1,000’ of the stuff!
