Standing Rigging Replacement and Vendors in the UK

Hey!

We're replacing the standing rigging. Generally it's a lot cheaper to buy stuff in the UK and have it shipped to Sweden than buying them locally, at least when it comes to boat stuff.

I had a look at this site: Stainless Steel Wire Rope, Marine Hardware, Rigging Fittings & Components, 316 Grade and put together the new rig and found the price (inc VAT ex freight) about half of what the rigger here in Sweden offered. The rig was offered with swaged terminals by the rigger and the one I put together has swageless terminals so i'd do it myself.

All the stuff from the UK company seems to be brandless though and I'm wondering if anyone have any opinnions regarding the terminals and turnbuckles or even experience with that particular company? Good stuff and safe to order or should I go for the 2x more expensive option? We are budget cruisers, but having the mast go for a swan dive mid atlantic isn't budget

Thanks.

Hi.
Did you decide to go with S3i in the end, would you recommend or suggest someone else.
Thanks
Phil

So first time in over a year then

We didn't go with S3i. Mainly for lack of information combined the fact that they seemed to be a lot cheaper than everyone else. In the end it wasn't worth the money to doubt the quality of the rig. We ended up using the local rigger and got a good price since we baught a ton of other stuff as well.

We did buy our Rocna anchor from the UK though, had it shipped to our doorstep and and still saved £300 compared to buying it locally.

We went away sailing for little over a year. Now we sold the boat 3 weeks ago and are looking very hard for a "new" one.

Re: Standing Rigging Replacement and Vendors in the UK

Nice to hear your back safely after a year. Nice life!
We went away for 8 day's, they were fun packed!
1. Lost dingy in first 2 hours, rope snapped while I was raising sales.
2. Toilet stopped working, replaced in Strømstad, Sweden.
3. Toilet still not working, valve had broken and closed, so boat out of water, had 2 hour window.
4. Lots of other jobs
Reliability is very important to me now ;-)
Thanks all for the replies & the warm welcome.
