Stiff Spinlock Clutch

Does anyone out there have any experience with lubing spinlock clutches? (mine are pretty stiff, in spite of repeated cleaning with fresh water)

The manufacturer recommends using silicone spray (and specifically advise against using wd40)... but I'm hesitant to use silicone: for one thing, it does "travel", potentially to places where I do need friction, and for another, most importantly, I'm worried that using silicon spray goes against the very reason one uses clutches, that is, to hold the lines tight through friction!

Any advice welcome. (even if to tell me that I'm needlessly worrying!)

Silicone grease (in tube, not spray) gives good results in my Spinlock XA clutches.

I put just a little between the lever and the cam, and it doesn't "travel" elsewhere, e.g. on the teeth on the other side of the cam.
