Synthetic Rigging Update

Hi folks,

Well it's done, the new synthetic rig is on Shanti. This was a much larger project than I had initially imagined for many reasons. And I'm still not quit done. Probably my biggest problem was getting stuffed shiped down here. The post office and even FEDEX are terrible here. Actually had a hard time finding he clevis pins I needed on the island. I had to order them and shipped down here to St. Thomas.

Took Shanti for her tune up sail on Monday in 10-12 kts of wind. Not a real test, but close enough. The real test will come in the next couple of days when I have to beat against 20kt trade winds to sail up to the BVI from St. Thomas.

So far the rig is matching expectations. I love this stuff and now hate wire.

I have some posts on all this on Shanti's blog at [garyfelton.com]

When I return I will post a final analysis of the synthetic rig and what I have learned along the way.

Cheers and Happy New Year!
Gary

Re: Synthetic Rigging Update

Gary,

I noticed that this was an old post with no replies....

Curious whether you could update us further regarding Shanti's dux rigging?

There has been some interesting chatter on the net from reliable sources concerning temperature variations and thermal expansion..........

Any problems keeping the pretension on your rig with the dead eyes and lanyards??

How has the material held up thus far??

Any good hard sailing with the current rig??

Thanks,
