Twist shackle on Genoa halyard?

I'm replacing my halyards. The old genoa halyard had a snap shackle - this is what failed. The genoa jib is on a furler - I take the sail down twice a year only for maintenance so I don't really need the convenience of a quick connect.

The rigging shop at West Marine suggested putting a twist shackle on the halyard. Here's the question - there is already a twist shackle on the furler where the halyard will connect - so there will be two twist shackles in line. Is this likely to cause a problem?

I'm waiting on a answer back from the rigger - thought I would also get a second opinion

Re: Twist shackle on Genoa halyard?

Sound odd to me.

Genoa on a furler. We have a twisted shackle (90 degrees shackle) at the tack. aligned with furling direction (avoids twisting the tack webbing when furled).

But atop we have a plain shackle on the halyard.

Our halyard is wire so it has plenty of twist-freedom by itself.

Re: Twist shackle on Genoa halyard?

What do you mean by "twist shackle"? to me that is a regular screw pin shackle with a 90 degree twist betsween the hoop and the pin, and I don't see what benefit one would gain from use in your situation.

I wondered if you meant a swivel shackle, one with a free joint between top and bottom, allowing (in your case) the halyard to twist without affecting the furler swivel?
