Whats this in my boom?

Outrigger for fishing, maybe. Not strong looking enough for anything substantial.

Is it for a sun shade or awning so the cockpit behind the boom is covered?

Its for a sunshade,it lets me tie the canvas shade on one side of the boom or the other,it reaches to the back of the cockpit so i can keep the shade as far back as necessary.

I meant to take some photos to add to the post,i'll try to remember the next time that i use it
