Re: Where do you buy your line?

I have some (smaller boat) from West Marine and the rest (bigger boat) from Valley Rope and Supply. It is nice NOT having old white-turned-gray double braid that stands up in the corner by itself waiting for you...

Best prices on some lines. Good selection of Dyneema.

Nash,

I’m with Jolly Roger, I buy all my lines from Miami Cordage - great products, great prices, & great people.

Re: Where do you buy your line?

OnlineRopes.com has been selling rope on-line since 2011. They have a good reputation with cruisers. Most prices are competitive with West Marine, some slightly higher some lower. West Marine is able to buy in bulk making it almost impossible for smaller operators to compete on every line. It is also hard to compete with West Marines on-line marketing teams. Took less than a day for West Marine to be mentioned in reply to this post. Check other post about products that West Marine also sells and you will see the same thing happening. Not suspicious at all.

But a lot of buyers don't have access to a West Marine or don't want to buy from the Walmart of the sea. I like them because they actually know the ropes they sell and they are very good with custom spliced lines and assemblies.

No pony in this race. Just trying to collect good rope sources. But they list this as an address:
Online Ropes
3875 W Mardon Ave.
Las Vegas, NV 89139
Google street view shows this to be a residential area. The address is a home with a loop-through driveway. No commercial sign in sight.

Maybe they don't want their neighbours to know they are running a business in a residential area?

They claim: "Our staff includes former rope factory workers, live aboard sailboat cruisers along with recognized e-commerce experts."

Could be a CF member... game7808?

Re: Where do you buy your line?

I get mine from sailboatowners.com. they are great, and communicative. Easy to use interactive website for adding eye splices and shackles as needed. They also have specs on boats, and rigging needs.

Re: Where do you buy your line?

LFS Marine is a top notch supplier for line. It provides a lot of the gear to the Alaskan fishery.

https://www.lfsinc.com/

And for anyone who has not yet discovered the wonder that is tarred seine twine, I recommend picking up a spool of it. Incredibly strong (1150 lb tensile) and will lash/secure to nearly anything without slipping. Duct tape for boats.
