Whisker pole for hoisting dinghy?

looking for advise on using whisk pole for a hoist to lift dingy on deck?
70' motor sailor, 63' mast height, alum mast and whisky pole?
very solid rigging 3/8 line with 3000lb strength dingy is 11' 25 hp outboard
est weight 1000lbs would be a guess on high side.
what precautions should i take? any one with stories or pics of how to rig this?
also any ideas or plans to make a cradle for dingy?

Re: whiskey pole for hoisting dingy?

Depends on the whisker pole. I use my spinnaker pole to lift mine. I never use it for what it was made for so I cut it down in length and use it like a gin pole. I attach one end to the mast the other to the spinnaker halyard. Then I put a 2 part block and fall onto it. I have used it to raise and lower the dingy no motor although I'm sure it would handle the added 60 lb. Also use it for the batteries it will reach the dock and then I can lift it to lower them into the v berth through the hatch. Also use it to bring fuel and water cans on board from the dingy. It's been very useful.

Sure, It can be used as a "strand out" to swing the dingy from. Rigged as such the lifting line (halyard?) takes the weight, the pole just allows the dingy to swing aboard on a radius. I've done it but found the geometry of not using the pole better on a smaller boat. It really depends on where it ends up putting your dingy and if that works for your particular boat.

We've used our spinnaker pole like that. We did break the fitting at the mast for the pole doing it one time though.
