Re: Why all toggles on my rig?

Toggles needed at all places where there is a risk for non-linear load. Very rare to see in the upper ends.. Normally the chainplates shall be installd in a way so toggles is not needed..

Re: Why all toggles on my rig?

Typically, toggles are only required on the bottom of the rigging wire, if needed on the mast end, something is wrong with the lead, also turnbuckles with toggles are more expensive, the top attachment should be toggle less, less chance of a failure do to more pieces, and of coarse, a reduction of cost.

Andreas-
You might also look for chromed bronze, rather than stainless steel. Stainless suffers from crevice corrosion and can suddenly fail. Old fashioned bronze just doesn't have that problem.

So are you advising everyone to get rid of their Iphone? I am betting that most of the gear you get in the USA was actually made in China but by a company with head offices in the USA so they can call it 'made in America' and charge 4x as much. Does mean that they generally have insisted on better quality control but not always.

I just bought a Makita grinder, top grade Japanese tool company. It says 'made in China'!!

Re: Why all toggles on my rig?

"MADE IN CHINA" is a red flag.
Everyone who jobs out manufacturing in China, has long ago learned that unless you have an on-site inspector, manager, partner, quality control team, preferably a Chinese ethnic family member, that there are better than average odds the Chinese "team" will be cheating. That's just the way it goes.
Like the Honda(?) plant where the Chinese plant manager's uncle or nephew or some other family member was literally using the worn out tooling, swapped in every night, and using the plant to manufacture clones without the real owner's knowledge!

In the case of FoxComm, Apple's manufacturing contractor, FoxComm's strategy has always been to have fairly stringent quality control to conform to their customer standards. As well as having some labor practices that the customer (Apple) pretty much has to turn a blind eye to.

So no, you can't compare any FoxComm product to a generic "two guys in Shenzhen" made in China product. The vast numbers of electrical products, from extension cords and surge protectors with outright counterfeit UL/CE hologram labels on them, to simple light fixtures without fusing or ground protection, to "floodlights" that are typically rated 50-100% higher than their actual output, are all part of the Chinese national culture, which for over a thousand years has said the Chinese people are next to the heavens, while Western Barbarians are animals to best be avoided. And since we are just animals, then cheating us or killing us is just fair game. To an extent that exceeds most if not all 1st and 2nd world sources.
Is that universal or exclusive? No, not at all. Toxic baby formula and other products have caused deaths, arrests, and some executions within China. But odd government sponsored subsidies (billions of pounds of aluminum ingots moved around to duck tariffs in the last few years, tanker transfers of cargo at sea to hide destinations, the list goes on) and policies are all part of a culture that, after a thousand years, is simply slow to change.
In the 1950's, we referred to Japanese goods in the US as "Jappo Crappo" and a TV that was Made in the USA was rather obviously superior. By the 1980's, when SONY had decided "to do something about it!", they developed the market busting Trinitron technology, and they followed it up by the unheard of 300% quality control testing (100% of all components, 100% of all assemblies, 100% of all completed units) before shipping, to blow away the competition, killing Zenith and many others. But it took 30 years of concerted effort for that to happen.
China? Hasn't decided to make the effort yet. Their strategy is to sell volume, and let American greed be their advantage. It isn't all their fault, if our companies can't be bothered to supervise their sources in China.
