Winch Replacemnt

Hey Everyone,

Im very new to sailing and i purchased a 1975 cape dory 25, 2 years ago. I would like to replace the old barlow #15 winches that control the genoa. Im having some trouble understanding what I should replace them with. Any suggestions?

Ive found a pair of Baron #6 for a good price but want to be sure they will work before I purchase.

First maybe you don't need new winches, a good cleaning and relube might be all they need. Google Barton 15 winch for sources of assembly diagrams and instructions.

I never heard of Baron winches, do you mean Barlow, Barton or Barrient? Different winch manufactures use different size codes but a #6 seems on the small side. Lewmar, Harken, Anderson and others all have sizing guides based on the sail area, best to consult that before you purchase. Also there is a Cape Dory owners association I'm sure they can help. Google Cape Dory and I'm sure you'll find them.
