Winch service

Servicing my winches today. I know you grease bearings and oil pawls. Do you put grease on the gears as well or does that just attract dirt and sand?

Yes, just a little (so that it does not migrate into the pawls--this caution is particularly relevant to the pawl gear--just a wipe). It does not seem to attract dirt and there is a LOT of pressure on the gears.


You should be able to find a service manual on line for any common winch.
