I like the idea of 6:1, I will look into that. I do have a cam cleat near the base of the mast so I can cleat the main halyard when I hoist it from the mast, then I take up the tail in the cockpit. Much easier to hoist from mast than cockpit. Friction has been a problem on the boat with oversize lines, etc. the mast will come down this fall and all the sheaves will be replaced. I agree an efficient deck layout is essential for many reasons. I think all of you are putting me on the right path.
