Re: Choice of rope

Once the chosen cordage is doing its job they shall become falls as in 'dinghy falls' or 'lifeboat falls'.
And two more for the pedants - I wonder if the OP uses tricing pennants or gripes.

Ah. So I could also get MegaBraid in 8-plait?

My 8-plait is Regatta; I use it on my genny; my Mega is mooring and snubber (and also anchor in the case of my bagged rodes with 50' of chain) line...

Didn't know the difference of material!

The New England Ropes 8 plait constructions go by different names. Mega and Regatta Braid are specific names for their 12 strand options.

While I am a big fan of MegaBraid, MegaBraid II, MegaPlait, and Regatta, I am not going to claim to know how many strands are in them. I think they are all 12, but there are 8-strand products out there too. They all are "similar" in that they are non-torquing and easy on the hands. Some work better in windlasses.

Re: Choice of rope

Why are you all throwing sheets and dock lines on the same heap? These are totally different products, don’t use a dock line as a genoa sheet

Ummm .... Who is that directed at?

Regatta Braid is a fabulous polyester product that makes a great sheet. My mainsheet is Regatta. It is perhaps 50% stretchier than StaSet, but still a good sheet for sheets, especially if you want to prioritize "hand" over performance. It is clearly and specifically intended for running rigging, not mooring lines. Samson PhD is a similar construction, but with a high tech blend instead of polyester.

MegaBraid is nylon, and used for dock and anchor lines -- a completely different product!

Going back to the original question, regatta would work wonderfully in a davit falls.
