dinghy transom height implications

My boat came with a 2018 Highfield CL310 which I have no immediate plans to replace, but I think it's possible that I may want to go a little bigger in the future, upgrading to the CL340. The CL310 has a short shaft transom, and the CL340 has the option to order the same short shaft transom, or you can order the taller long shaft transom. My current thoughts are that I would just get the shorter transom and use the outboard motors that I already have. I'm just curious, is there a downside to this? Is there a problem when you get to the larger dinghy sizes with having the shorter transom?
