Electric Air Inflator for Dinghy?????

Looking for suggestions for an electric inflation pump for an inflatable dinghy. Compactness is high on list of preference. Cordless would be great (Dewalt preference, though most seem to be for tire inflation vs low-pressure/high-volume inflation), but can live with either 12VDC or 120VAC. Would be used to deflate as well as inflate.

Suggestions? TIA -

Re: Electric Air Inflator for Dinghy?????

We picked up this pump this year for our toys (SUP, foilboarding wings, etc.) I don't know if it can do a whole dinghy from flat on a single charge but you can also plug it in with AC or DC. It will certainly top up your dinghy running cordless. We have been super happy with it. It will auto shut off at half psi intervals you select with a small lcd screen and buttons. It has a two stage pump with high volume up to 1 psi then high pressure

I see it is out of stock at that shop at the moment but you can call Jon there and see when he will have one available to ship. I know some STX stuff he will drop-ship to you from the manufacturer. And I am sure there are some similar competing products.

I picked up one of the Dewalt cordless units during the Christmas sales at the big box hardware stores. It’s pretty compact. Haven’t used it a lot yet, but it does inflate bike tires pretty wel!

We used to use a small portable 120V Vacuum cleaner where you can move the hose from the inlet to the outlet to Pump up or down. It will vacuum the Dinghy so small that it folds up tiny.
The bonus is you can clean the boat with it.

Re: Electric Air Inflator for Dinghy?????

When we bought our boat 7 years ago the tender was flat, thinking I would have to inflate it a lot I bought this:

The wires broke and I had to fix it a couple of years ago but it's still going strong.

Re: Electric Air Inflator for Dinghy?????

We standardized on the DeWalt 20 volt batteries for our onboard cordless power tools.

I was pleased to find their compressor had a high volume low pressure capability [as well as low volume high pressure for tires, etc.] which works great for our RIB and SUP.

Mine didn’t come with the HR quick disconnect fitting common to RIB, etc, but those are cheap and readily available. [Compressor high volume hose is 3/4” ID].

This unit suits our needs well.

FWIW

Cheers, Bill

PS: I removed the detachable 12v cord from its compartment on the side of the compressor so I could store fittings and adapters there…

Re: Electric Air Inflator for Dinghy?????

I have one of those little inflators they make for air mattresses and little rafts, but if/when I upgrade here's the kind of things I've been looking at. I lean toward the Metrovac since I have used one similar to that in past rafting days. But I think the weed blower will get it full in under a second.

Re: Electric Air Inflator for Dinghy?????

Look up whitewater rafting pumps. We used 12 volt and battery powered. I have one of these, about 7 years of use on it now. It has inflated my white water raft many times on a single charge.

Re: Electric Air Inflator for Dinghy?????

I used the 20vdc DeWalt vacuum. Just move the hose to the exhaust port. Initially I expected to have to use the hand pump to top it up but the vacuum did a surprisingly good job on the dinghy, inflatable fenders, and float toys.

https://www.dewalt.com/product/dcv58...cuum-tool-only

Doubles as a ... VACUUM! quite handy.

Re: Electric Air Inflator for Dinghy?????

We used this one from West Marine. Worked great on all our inflatables, dink, SUP, kayaks, etc. Also deflates. Swapped the battery clips for plugs that matched our 12v sockets. More expensive than many other solutions, but has an auto cut-off, and lots of adapters.

I am also very impressed with Milwaukee's M18 tire inflator. Auto cut-off, compact, uses all M18 batteries. One downside is adapting the tire fitting to a more general fitting.

Re: Electric Air Inflator for Dinghy?????

I use a small amazon rechargeable pump. Keep one in the car and one on board for the dinghy and the electric scooter. Weighs 500 grams and is 12 centimetres long. I keep it in a lazarette.
On Amazon : Xiaomi Portable Electric Air Compressor 1S
I recharge it on board via 220v USB adapter or 12v USB or cigarette lighter.
It reaches 3 bars easily. It heats up a bit at the end but nothing drastic.
