I hear a good idea is to make your dink & motor stand out. People have painted neon orange polka dots or stripes on it. My kayak has pink, orange & green day-glo flowers (1970 hippie style) on it so most thieves would be embarrassed to walk/paddle off with it. It just needs to stand out so everyone knows they took your stuff. Of course, there is always some grinch that will overcome any prevention.

So, with the doors unlocked and a $1.59 knob on the shifter, a thief cut through our roof anyway to steal the knob.

Ha! Had exactly the same thing happen on a Jeep with a soft top. Thieves are idiots. The same thief couldn't pull my stereo, although he trashed the dash trying, so he took the removable face from the glove just to spite me.

The cable/chain that you use to lock up your dinghy is the weak link in securing your dinghy. Buy cheap locks and change them often.
