Low pressure fuel pump installation

Hello,

I am trying to install a Walbro model 12V2403 low pressure fuel pump for my diesel heater. The old one is shot and this is a drop in replacement, but I want to make sure that I am wiring it correctly. The old one had the hot terminal screwed directly to the case, and the negative off an insulated post on the bottom. This doesn't make sense to me, as then the whole case of the pump is hot.
