New approach to dinghy repair?

Clark from Emily & Clark's Adventure YouTube channel has an interesting idea for fixing inflatable dinghies when they get to the point that they are difficult to patch well enough to hold air:

I wonder if the rubber tire tubes would work as well.

The beach ball idea seemed like it would work, at least in the short term.

This idea could work for “fenders” to some degree very interest8ng. Marine inflatable fenders are like 10 times the price of these.

Dunnage bags won't stand up to UV.

True but for short term work when rafting up or fuel docking and at that price who cares

Re: New approach to dinghy repair?

I tried to fix a large cut in my dinghy and it didn't work. I had it professionally repaired for an arm and a leg but it was a great repair job. Couldn't even tell it was repaired. They replaced a whole section of hypolon. Annapolis inflatables.

Re: New approach to dinghy repair?

This dunnage bag idea is pretty clever.

I've been repairing my piece of s**t Zodaic (that's redundant, isn't it?) with super glue for small patches and G-flex Epoxy for big ones, including seams that have opened up.

Both types of repairs have held up well. The high-pressure floor, with a big patch applied, has also held up but not taking a chance I bought a new floor.

So that keeps the air in, now if only I could keep the water out too.

Zodiac, what was I thinking?

If they're inside the tubes of the inflatable dinghy, they don't have to stand up to any UV. The trick will be getting them into the tube(s).

Re: New approach to dinghy repair?

Fred, you were thinking back to the days when perspicacious old French ladies glued hypalon bits together to make serious dinghies. When Zodiac switched to pvc and welding, and the aforementioned ladies didn't get supplementary income from them, the dinghies lost their longevity. Tant pis!] (So much the worse.)

My comment was in response to the suggestion to use them for fenders.

Re: New approach to dinghy repair?

Is there anyway to pull the old inner tube out and put a new one in and does anyone sell such a tube? This sounds like a great idea which might hold a month or two before one needs to put a new bag in. Might night give planning rigidity though.

The rigidity that is needed is in the bottom, not the tubes.
