Old Mercury Dink Engine Question

We got a 1990 Mercury Seapro 10M engine with the dink that came with the boat when we bought it. Working my way through systems, I find myself now trying to get this 24 year old outboard to run. It shows promise. Has spark, will run briefly on a couple cc's of fuel squirted into a cylinder. Took carb apart last night and soaked it in the Gunk carb cleaner. You know the one gallon bucket with the little tray you lower into it.

I don't have any documentation on this engine. It's all pretty straightforward at this level, for a two stroke. But I found one little issue that I need some information on.

On the carb bottom there is a little hose nipple, with a small flexible black plastic hose or tube that runs from the bottom of the carb to a t-connector, where it splits off and runs this same plastic tubing to each cylinder head.

I don't know what the nomenclature of this tubing assembly is, or what it does.

Anyone here familiar with the old Merc 10 hp two strokes?

Re: old merc dink engine question

Thank you very much, that is extremely helpful. It's difficult to order parts online from a place like this when you can't come up with the right nomenclature or part number. Typing "that little black rubber thingy" into an online order form is pretty slow.

I'm looking at this old beat up two stroke and thinking how much I would like to have a sweet running simple little engine under that weather beaten, cracked, chipped and faded cowling. It would definitely be the last one in the crowd to attract the attention of a thief. Besides, troubleshooting these old two strokes is actually a pleasure. Takes the hurt out of the unrequited desire for a new Suzuki.
