Anchor Chain Dimensions

I found this information at
BBB* Windlass Anchor Chain

Grade 30 BBB

Chain is embossed "3B" on every link 5/16 and larger
Very Important Link Dimensions:
Chain size Thick In L In W Out L Out W Link/ft.*
1/4 .281" .87" .43" 1.43 .99 14
5/16 .343" 1.00" .50" 1.691 .19 12
3/8 .406" 1.09" .62" 1.901 .43 11
1/2 .531" 1.34" .75" 2.401 .81 9
*links per foot measured from inside the links

and

this at
Gr 40 Windlass Anchor Chain

Grade 40 BBB

Chain is embossed "G4" or "A4" every link
Very Important Link dimensions:
Chain size Thick In L In W Out L Out W Link/ft.*
1/4 .274" .845" .41" 1.39 .96 14.2
5/16 .330" 1.03" .50" 1.69 1.16 11.7
3/8 .394" 1.22" .60" 2.01 1.39 9.8
7/16 .467" 1.40" .66" 2.33 1.59 8.6
1/2 .510" 1.59" .77" 2.61 1.79 7.6
*links per foot measured from inside the links

My first curiosity is how the higher grade chain is actually smaller in dimension. Does this seem correct? I understand that the Grade 40 is NOT BBB chain, but the WLL is considerably higher. 9200 lbs. for the G40 compared to 4500 lbs. for the G30 (in 1/2 in.). Weight is another factor with the G40 being considerably lighter.

Second- How does each pass through the windlass with the difference in dimension?

Third- The price doesn't seem to make sense. For instance:

1/2 inch Grade 30 8.12/ft. 100' 7.10/ft. 200"
1/2 inch Grade 40 7.78/ft. 100' 7.30/ft. 200'

Grade 40 cheaper at 100' yet more costly at 200'

BTW...freight is paid in continental US from 1st Chain
I am in no way schlepping for them.

Somebody must have a comment or two on this?

The 3/8" chain with 10 links per foot is an ISO link which is the most used to day I think. BBB is a different link but they do sell G30 ISO too which is the same strength but with the ISO links again.

The pricing must be due to what they have too much of etc. I recommend to buy G43 chain which has G4 stamped on the links.

cheers,
Nick.
