Anchor Handling Towing Winch

Hi All

I'm not sure whether post on right forum or not, so pls correct me if I'm wrong.

Recently I'm question by my supervisor regarding design of anchor handling towing winch . Here is the question:

An Anchor handling towing winch on boaed a PSV is to equiped with SWR dia. 64mm x 1200m for towing and anchor handling purpose. The low speed had been given as 100T x 8m/min, and slack speed of 32m/min.

a)What is pros and cons between hydrualic drive and electric drive?
b)Should the winch equip with a gipsy? why and what application?
c)Should the rope to proprose as down coiling or up coiling?
d)What is expected drum size? State your calculation.
e)Explain the term of "dynamic lowering"
f).Explain the term of "Quick release"

Is there anybody to help me on this ?

Homework is there for a reason.... The exercise is left to the student.

Re: Anchor Handling Towing Winch

Hey.... It's clearly stated in the original post that the vessel in question is a Platform Service Vessel (PSV), not an AHTS which would in fact use a real winch (450T 3.5" wire rope)

not that wimpy little 100T that was spec'd...

Also not sure the 2.5" wire rope as spec'd is adequate for my 30 kilo CQR? Oh well at least it's easy to get in the chain locker.

PSV, OSV, AHTS, whatever :-). I haven't been next to a real winch for a few years so forgot the scale.

Hello chn_goh... You do not have the correct forum as this is for small pleasure boats.... Good luck with your research.
