Re: Anchor Poll

Doesn't anybody use the old Luke fisherman's anchor any more?

I think my next one will be a Manson.

Re: Anchor Poll

Another factor in the anchor choice is the configuration of the anchor davit. I would like to have one of those anchors with the big "roll bars" on top for a better set position, but I would need to refit a radical change at my bow.

Re: Anchor Poll

Manson Supreme 45lbs and that puppy looks BIG on my bowsprit! It's really too heavy without a windlass though.

Re: Anchor Poll

What NO Spade choice in your poll?????.... probably what all those "other" responses are from....

We have a 44# steel Spade (Passport 37) and we've anchored from Annapolis to Florida, throughout the Western Caribbean - Yucatan, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama... all the way to Cartagena Colombia and then back to SW Florida.

Our "storm" anchor is a way oversized Fortress FX-37 that we handset from the dinghy since we only have one anchor roller.... for the Spade.

The new anchors may be great, but we wouldn't trade our Spade!

35lbs Manson Supreme
Secondary is 25lbs CQR (to be replaced by an FX-37)

Re: Anchor Poll

by 'mason' i assume you mean manson, and by manson i assume you mean 'supreme'.

on my 37 foot 20000lb cutter i use a 45lb manson supreme as my primary. my secondary is currently a 35lb high test danforth. it doesn't live well with the manson on the bow rollers, so i may move it to the lazarette as the third anchor and replace it with a 45lb cqr or delta as the secondary.

Re: Anchor Poll

A 1979 Ford Pinto.........

Just because I'll not get into this debate.

Plus I do not own right now, and do not have an anchor.

Number 1 is a 66lb Bruce, also a 45lb CQR on the bow. Have a rarely used 20lb Danforth on the stern. Will likely replace the CQR. With a larger Manson when finances allow.

Re: Anchor Poll

CQR 60 and 33Kg Bruce, both the real ones. Luke 75lb 3 piece as the last chance. Or first chance. The Luke has 300 feet of 3/4in braided rode and 30ft of 3/8in anchor chain. the others are on 5/16 grade 70 chain 300 feet each. Just my opinion - I could be wrong. But I am not!!!!!!!!!!

Manson boss or sarca excel.

I have a 45 lb boss and love it so far. 35 lb would have been plenty, though

That should hold you in, oh, maybe a 45 knot blow?

55lb Rocna... Best investment I have made in the boat. Having started cruising, I'm shocked how many places I have to go shorter than 4:1 scope. Having a hugh anchor for just a 12,000 pound boat makes this short scope work ok.
