Anchor Size for 46PC Leopard

buying 46 PC, I have used a 65# Mantus M1 for 4yrs on a 46 Trawler (46,000#), very happy with it. The 46Leo is 36,000#,but more windage. Thinking of a 85# or 105# Mantus. Any ideals? Will the Mantus fit? We travel Florida and the Bahamas.

What do they recommend and offer with the boat? A big Mantus will have a very big hoop, as you know, and that might or might not be a problem fitting on the roller. Check to see what the maximum length of shank is before you run into problems. You don't want the anchor hanging off the bow roller.

Re: Anchor Size for 46PC Leopard

We had a 88 lb Rocna on our 38,000 lb monohull ketch. We were not happy.

We upgraded to a 105 lb Mantus, and life is much better. We do not look to change.

Our philosophy is driven by the fact that NOBODY ever woke up at 2AM as a squall blew through the anchorage and thought, “My anchor is too big!”

My thoughts on anchor sizing are detailed here: https://fetchinketch.net/boat_though...ize-an-anchor/

Thank you, I read your info. My present boat with a 65 Rocna. I read the info on Panolop? and bought 65# Mantus, very happy, survived a close tornado at 3 am.

Re: Anchor Size for 46PC Leopard

I would check the available space very closely based on some photos I saw of the 46 Leopard PC--they have a video someplace on how to use the anchor windlass too. Looks like a hoop-type anchor, especially a big one, might not fit in there, and again check how long the shank can be. If you have to go hoopless I would check out the Sarca Excel anchor. Steve on Panope has a test of it.

Re: Anchor Size for 46PC Leopard

You might consult the Mantus Anchor Sizing Guide, which recommends an 85 Lb Working/Cruising anchor [39" × 27" × 6 inches], and/or 105 Lb Storm anchor [41" × 30" × 6 inches], for boats 45 - 50 Ft Long; which confirms your initial thoughgts.

Thanks, thats where I started, I don't know if the 85 or 105 will fit, or if windless can haddle 105#s.

Re: Anchor Size for 46PC Leopard

My 105# Mantus arrived! It is Really BIG. Thinking 85# would be better, I am glads it's in parts so I can move it.
