I just tie it on my nylon line. No anchor required.

"When I find the right size bolt I'm going to replace the Kong bolt with a longer one that goes all the way though it so I can put a locknut on the other side."

Don if your chain comes thru a cutout with a roller on your pulpit & you have a windlass the nut could possible get hung on the roller bracket & destroy it much like mine did. I use a remote helm switch while singlehandling was also part of the problem, if I had been on the bow using the toe switches probably wouldn't have happened. If your concerned about the screw use some locktite thread lock on it. Good luck

Re: Anchor to Chain Connector Poll

I thought that swivels were necessary. I was wrong. A hockle formed in our 3 strand rode when it blew 35 for a couple days. We looked it up in Chapman's and they say no swivels with 3 strand. We used our secondary anchor while we swapped the primary rode end-for-end (the hockle was 20 feet from the anchor, glad about that) and learned how to splice to chain. Our secondary anchor dragged all night long! It was the wrong anchor for that bottom. The only good thing was that we had 8 miles of relatively shallow bay behind us before the boat would ever hit anything. I think we actually moved about 100 yards in the night.
Now, with no swivel, the anchor chain is no more and no less twisted than it was before when we pull it up.

This photo of our WASI swivel, is after thousands of nights on the hook, in over 20 countries, after tens of thousands of sea miles, over the last 13 years. It is still perfect!

On my other gear, I only use Crosby to ACCO HT chain.

Re: Anchor to Chain Connector Poll

I think I want to connect our new anchor using a chain forerunner.

Connection to the chain rode would be with the smooth shackle. The forerunner keeps the swivel from getting twisted around the anchor stem or the bow roller. The end shackle on this one is elongated (oval section) in the direction of the highest stress. Thi seems to be the only way I can get a rating higher than my chain.

Re: Anchor to Chain Connector Poll

After riding out a gale at anchor I found that the swivel had slid backwards up the slot on the Delta anchor and jammed there preventing it from articulating. It was bent but held. So I bought the big Kong 3000kg swl connector and put a Wichard stainless shackle on one end and a huge galvanised shackle on the other. Also filled the slot on the anchor stock with nylon to prevent the shackle from jamming - shackles an connectors are fine for strength as long as the pull is along the line of shackle - if it is across the jaws they are much weaker.

Wow! Haven't seen them before can you provide the link? (internet of course)

Do you let it go through the Capstan?

Cheers

here are a few links. I'll let you know when I figure out how to source it. So far they all appear to be foreign. I have a rigging supply connection where I work I can call next week.

My capstan is well aft and below deck. I might force it over the wildcat but I don't think it will go that far.

I see you have an anchor wench. Those chain foreunners look interesting, but are they galvanized? If not they will soon be rusted solid.

Certainly are there for large diameter chain.

I find it laughable that the oil rig industry uses pinned/two part swivels, shackles and such for mooring their barges, ships and rigs in all conditions yet not one of them has taken heed of the negative comments on this Forum regarding such use!!!!

Sheeez some people when will they learn?

The computer rendering of the (blue) Kenter joining link is a bit misleading: it doesn't show the joint lines.

And if that item is suitable for your vessel, (implying 50mm chain, minimum), that must be a big girl disporting herself in your chain locker !

I'm surprised you feel the need for a windlass, with foredeck personnel like that....

They have them down to 1/2 inch. Its a bit hard to find. If it can't be found in the USA for cruising boats I will have to make my own assembly from parts. I found a local place to do armor-galvanize. ArmorGalv | Michigan Metal Coating - Home Holland Michigan. They did my chain - 320 feet for about 350 bucks.

I think that when the parts get large enough, they are painted & greased regularly.
