Well That is not always so simple, when the nearest tide stations may be 50+ miles away and you are in a bay that does not equate very well to the interpolation between the 2 nearest stations, which is why I was after what people use for a margin of error in regions of high tidal ranges

Yes. I got caught once in a small tributary to a larger tidal river, separated by a narrow passage. My estimate of the time lag between the tide at the river mouth and my place was wrong. And the tide probably didn't follow the rule of twelfths. So I awoke in the middle of the night when the keel touched the bottom and there was a slight creak. We spend a few hours listing heavily to port, without any damage.

Re: Anchoring Questions

Mostly important depending on surrounding bottom. Within your swing range you want a meter minimum or two at low tide on a flat bottom. Or above any rock or obstacle in your range. Also consider how protected the anchorage is. The less protected the more depth for me.

Re: Anchoring Questions

As long as the bottom is sand, twin keeling largely resolves the issue of skinny water and tides.

Re: Anchoring Questions

With twin keels, you don't want any chop or swell at the moment of making contact with the ground of floating again, even in sand. There is a moment when the yacht rises on each crest then falls down in the following through and hits the ground.

With a single keel, you can heel the yacht and reduce the shocks.
