Bahamian Moore, brother of Benjamin Moore.
I love unwrapping line more than sailing.

Then we will have a high pressure "calm" (likely N wind during the day and S at night). I am planning on bumping to a few hundred yards off East Bay Park and orienting my anchors in line with SW-NE. My northernmost anchor will be two danforths attached together (one "towing" the other) by 6 ft of chain. Ill probably be using a scope of 12:1 on this rode, because the waves here are fun.

Not large currents here in Grand Traverse Bay, just VERY unpredictable wind vectors.

My goal is to leave the boat unsupervised through the tail end of the gale and probably most of the N wind.
Just do 2 off the bow then. Similar to, and often confused with, the Bahamian Moor, but a bit easier to set up. Its just 2 anchors set at about a 60d angle off the bow rather than 180d as with the Bahamian Moor.

Or investigate tandem anchoring, 2 anchors in line, 1 rode.

Oh wow you guys don’t know how to untangle the two rodes of a Bahamian moor the clever way! I’ll reveal the big secret then: start your engine, put your rudder hard over, shift forward. Observe tangles... if more appear, you’re turning circles the wrong way.

Just dont foul them!

I like to learn methods that dont include the engine personally BUT this is still a real good way to do it, im sure. Probably takes 1/10th the time too.

Re: Bahamian Moore

Multiple anchors left alone sounds like a recipe for a beached boat to me. If you arent familiar and confident in what you are doing, they can tangle or foul, come up and not reset due to the fouling. Lots of debate on this with storm anchoring conversations.

A good modern anchor will reset itself just fine in a shifting wind. Set one anchor, let out a good scope and relax.

Re: Bahamian Moore

I ended up setting a Bahamian moore. For a lesser amount of time (I ended up being gone for a week) I would agree with zemurray that a single anchor is better, as I usually use, for the reason he stated.

Thanks for everyone's input. I love how active this forum is in helping each other solve problems, and at the very least double check each other's thinking.

Did you return to find the rodes "twisted" up?

Only five wraps, which was very surprising! Especially since (looking at the observed weather data from the nearby airport) the wind clocked fully twice and went variable (N during day and S at night) for 5 of those days. Got lucky!
