Re: Can anyone identify this windlass?

I gather that you haven't found any markings on the housing, but there's one or two places left to look. Albeit it's a long shot. There may be a logo or emblem cast into the underside of the foot of the windlass, where it's mounted to the deck. Or possibly on one of the pieces where 2 big sections of the body bolt together.

That said, if the maker can't be identified, or they're out of business, there are still rebuild options. The question of course being cost for unique/one off parts & rebuilding vs. a new unit. And while I'm not sure what bits inside of it needs rebuilding. It's usually fairly easy & inexpensive to get motors rewound. And some shops can rebuild gears, & clutches, etc.

WGreetings and welcome aboard the CF, Wason.

Could it be a Simpson-Lawrence Seatiger 555 ?

Re: Can anyone identify this windlass?

Looks like and older model Lofrans to me. That motor housing is very similar to newer models.

No, that ain't no 555 Sea Tiger.

Looks like an older Lofran, as mentioned previously.

+1 for Lofrans. Looks a lot like the one on my cat. Mine has a small plate riveted to the motor housing that yours does not seem to have. Had a heck of a time getting parts for it after it grenaded on me in the Whitsundays. Italy takes very long vacations this time of year.
