Re: Chain Counter

Auto anchoring systems don't appeal to me at all, each to their own on that one, but i don't think having a simple chain counter when single handing could be classed as just a convenience.
While i don't have one on my boat, having been on a friends boat with one fitted i could see a number of instances where one would be beneficial while single handing.....if on the other hand there’s extra body’s on board why bother with it.....

As for inspecting the condition of my ground tackle and making any repairs (trying to not sound superior here) but i tend to make sure that’s done before i need it, not during the operation......

Re: Chain Counter

Anyone else have a Nielsen windlass with the built-in chain counter? It's low tech but functional. It has a large needle indicator at the base of the winch that slowly revolves as you drop chain. You can mark depths on the windlass base or deck. Obviously not remote and hence not the same animal as what's being discussed here, but it does negate chain markings and is super easy to use. Requires all chain rode obviously.
