Re: Correct Anchor?

I would only consider Rocna, Spade and Mantus M1 for the main anchor. BIG anchor and all chain.
Keep the Danforth it could be useful as a kedge.

Re: Correct Anchor?

For those who offered non-judgemental information observations or advise on where else to research; THANK YOU!!!

For those who opted to talk smack and down to someone asking for help..... Thank you also, for identifying yourselves as the sort of member who does believe there are such things as stupid questions and that there is a hierarchy here on the forum. You certainly make it easy to identify who will judge you and who to avoid.

In your zeal to prove your elitist station on a sailing forum, you failed to recognize that I was looking to be directed to where the info might be located and yes, I also stated I had searched but hadn't found myself fully informed only familiar with a lot of opinions.

Specifically I wrote:

"I would like well informed conversation on this topic, OR please direct me to an already solid discussion please.

I know this topic is probably beat to death and yes I've done a search which has not necessarily provided clarity but it has offered loads of opinion."

Sorry to agitate your professional sailing spleens.

I'm just a regular guy looking for some advice. ~Ed

Re: Correct Anchor?

A big modern day anchor with all chain, Oversize for your boat, Preferably,

A rope rode can and will chew out overnight in a violent storm,

It dont take long in coral reefs, Think razor blades, Or sharp rocks,

I dropped a temporary anchor with a double braid 16 mm Polyester rope rode in 70 knot winds, with a 40 KG anchor on it,

It was almost chewed thru in 3 hours while I changed my anchor to a 24 KG anchor on all chain, The 40 KG anchor would not hold, Where the 24 KG anchor did, It held for four days,

The 40 Kg anchor slid over the big rocks,

Both my anchors are new generation with roll bars, 34 foot, 4.5 Ton Cat,

Who cares what anchor you have in a Marina, You dont need an anchor in there,
