I was told by the Chief of Police that anchoring in water less than 80 feet outside the lagoon would result in impounding my boat until a fine of $200k could be paid.
The Grand Caymans handles five or six cruise ships a day and in 1999 had a revenue of $99 billion from their tourist trade and takes the protection of their reefs very seriously.

Indeed, I've also found this to be a great resource. You certainly do learn a HELL of a lot more talking to real people with experience, I certainly have. Don't worry about sounding 'nieve' at times, the people here understand that we all start somewhere and respect the fact that you're not affraid to ask.

BTW, where are you based on the CDS? You'll have to pop by to Duquesa for a drink sometime if you're near.

Thank you for the invite Simon, I live in Marbella, it would be great to catch up with someone local who has done this for a while, have you traveled much? I guess you live on your boat? I will be traveling past Duquesa a few times in the next weeks as I do some business in Gibraltar, best, Pablo.

The is NO anchorage in Gibralter. The only one is in Spain, next to Gibralter but for NON-EU people who are restricted in their visa time and want an anchorage in non-shengan Gibralter the spanish anchorage is not good, of course. Your still in the EU.

In the canaries the anchorage in Las Palmas is about 5 Euros per day... the martina much higher...

In the Caribbean the BVI's have lost many good anchorages to mooring balls... and they cost $25 to 30 per night.

In general you unsually find free anchorages, but you always need a dollar tucked away for emergencies.....

I don't think any marinas in Key West are free.

That was your question right?

Anchoring is free all over. Mooring balls cost.
