It's not an anchor, it's a crocodile whacker, the hole was for the rope handle, they are still in use in parts of the upper Nile today.

That is a page from the Thursday Egyptian newspaper 3400 years ago. Just like today the page has a hole in it

Wonderful! I haven't heard that since I was a little girl sailing with my parents in Maine...my father recited it (along with other tidbits of humor and tales) - 50 -55 years ago.
