Are you sure the splice didn't include a long core bury. The outer braid is often just sewn down on the outside.

I must admit I didn't whip my Leatherman out and chop into his splice...
But if it was a long splice the core was thinned down far too far.

Some folks perhaps think that exotics mean erotics and they forget to learn the special ways some of these 'new' things work.

So if the camera set up with the rope that failed was a loop then one needs to look at that splice... or whatever the connection/s.

It was the guide line that fell not the supporting line. Very little load. Im guessing it was not dyneema.And that it has more to do with the retracting system that allowed the line to wind up on the track.
