Flipping the anchor chain

I purchased by boat used, it is about 2 years old. It has 70m of galvanized 12mm anchor chain, without any nylon rode. I've read that switching it end for end will help to extend its life since it will wear more evenly. This makes sense.

Any reason not to do this? Maybe wait until the forward part of the chain is really beat up?

It's better not to wait for the galvanizing to be severely worn before end for ending. If you do then the end that almost never leaves the anchor locker will rust into an ugly clump.

It's a good maintenance practice.A good way to clean a chain is to drag it five miles down a country gravel road

If you want to take years off the life of the galvanizing.

+1 If you wait too long its better NOT to swap ends, as the active end keeps getting cleaned off by dragging on the bottom.
