Forged, galvanised, and rated shackles with hex (Allen) pins in 14mm size?

Does anyone know of a source for forged, galvanised, and rated shackles that have a pin secured by a hex (Allen) key, in 14mm or 16mm sizes?

On our 45' monohull, 12 tons loaded, I use 80m of 10mm G40 chain and a 33kg Rocna with an Osculati swivel. That gear is essentially as much as our production boat can handle. The anchor barely fits - it gently scrapes the underside of the pulpit on the way up and down.

I use a 12mm Wichard stainless bow shackle (https://marine.wichard.com/fiche-A%7...000000-ME.html), with a hex (Allen) pin, because I am worried about other styles of pins with projections on the sides perhaps snagging the narrow anchor roller on the way through.

12mm is the biggest size Wichard makes in that style, but 14mm would fit in my case, and perhaps even a 16mm - as long as the pin is the hex (Allen) style. The 12mm Wichard shackle shows worrisome signs of deformation, even after a few months of relatively light Mediterranean summer use. I am on to my second 12mm Wichard shackle, and both have perceptibly elongated, despite the supposed 2 ton working load limit. The fact that they are stainless (inox) makes the deformation even more of a concern.

I would swap in a heartbeat to a high-quality forged, galvanised, and rated 14mm or 16mm, shackle, with a hex pin, but I cannot find such a thing around these parts (currently in Greece), or even online. Chandleries have the occasional no-name 14mm or 16mm hex pin shackle, for a few euro, but for all I know the metal has been alloyed with fetta cheese, and I do not feel comfortable using equipment without a formal rating in such a vital role.

Thanks for any and all pointers!

I've heard that skordalya (Greek garlic dip) is a superior alloying agent for steel as compared to feta.
Also keeps the vampyrae away.

They are stainless not galvanized but Suncor makes anchor shackles up to 1 inch with no snag pins.

Tecnicable also make a stainless steel allen headed shackle, but I have just checked the catalogue and the maximum size is 12mm.

I modify our high strength galvanised shackles (currently Crosby 209A) by cutting off most of the projecting head of the pin, and then drilling a small hole for the mousing wire. The result is much less likely catch, but the shackle can still be undone and importantly can be moused.

You can take this a step further and cut off the head completely, using Loctite or peening to secure the pin. You will not be able to undo the shackle, but with modern anchors the days of having to swap the anchor for every different substrate is thankfully over.

Re: Forged, galvanised, and rated shackles with hex (Allen) pins in 14mm size?

Thank you kindly for all the info.

I had seen workers welding shackles shut at the boatyard, for other boats, but it was done crudely with a stick welder and I know just enough about welding to be concerned about the effects of that weld. A TIG welder, under the right conditions, and it would probably be fine, but again I'm left with stainless instead of galvanised.

I like the idea of cutting off the head of the pin when it's sealed or glued.

The strength of some shackles will be significantly reduced by the heat of welding so you need to be careful, especially with high strength galvanised shackles.

Personally, I like mousing to secure the shackle pin, but many feel Loctite is OK.

I know this is a old Post. But if you look up green pin fishing bow shackle fp they have some flush head shackles 13.5 mm with 16 mm pin is the smallest one
