Galvanising Hi Tensile chain

I suspect this has been noted previously but I found this comment clarified the issue of galvanising high tensile chain.

This note was attached to a quote from a very reputable Australian manufacturer of high tensile chain which is resold by Bullivants ( well respected supplier in Aus):

"Due to the chemical composition of the steel used to make GRD P Chain can not guarantee the aesthetics of Galvanising on GRD P Chain and finish can be “patchy” and visually unappealing however adequate protection is still provided."

I will still select this chain for my vessel but obviously is an unavoidable issue.

Re: Galvanising Hi Tensile chain

We re coated ours with armor galvanize. This is a franchise you may find in many places. Favorable as less environmentally bad and is more durable than plain hot tank zinc. Used by the navy for aircraft hold down.

Please let us know after you have used the chain in salt water for a couple of years... I've heard some unattributed comments that it did not last as well as hot dip. Hope that you can refute that!
