Has your anchor dragged while away?

Do not blame the anchor, there are lesser known explanations

Re: Has your anchor dragged while away?

My boat dragged nearly half mile in St. Augustine (strong currents) while I was on shore. Got a call from a friend who lived nearby, who was called by the marina nearby, who was called by a boat that mine was dragging toward.
RAN back to the dinghy, sped out to the boat, started the engine and pulled up the anchor to find fishing net wrapped around it! We had been anchored there for a week and it just so happened to pull loose when we left!

Re: Has your anchor dragged while away?

Never been towed away by a killer whale, but did, once return to boat during a thunderstorm, to find her thumping on the lee shore. It was pretty upsetting. Fortunately, Jim was able to drive her off. Subsequently bought NG anchor, and it hasn't happened since, although we have dragged once in storm conditions, but aboard, and in a protected anchorage, with variable bottom, where we re-anchored, and put out a 2nd one to help hold her, and it was successful.

Re: Has your anchor dragged while away?

Chartered a Lagoon 380 in Croatia once, anchor was a mediocre Danforth. We anchored off a dockside restaurant and dinghied in. An hour into lunch the wind changed, only about 10 knots, and we watched the boat slowly reverse out of the harbor whilst on my second glass of wine. Needless to say zoomed out to re-anchor for the new direction and came back and finished lunch. That anchor was useless for all of our Croatia stops, ended up paying for mooring balls and docks.

I’ve seen a juvenile beluga whale pull small boats around of their anchor line. But it would also come over for a belly rub if you banged on the boat.
