Help identifying windlass

Hi everyone, I need some help.

Can someone identify this old windlass for me ?
It's still in working order, no worries there.
I only want to know the brand and type, then maybe find a manual or diagram for future reference.
There are no visible markings on it whatsoever.

For what it's worth:
The boat is a Kaufman and Ladd Skye 51 ketch from 1980 and this might just be the first windlass installed on her.

Any info or link much appreciated !

Re: Help identifying windlass

Welcome to the Kaufman family! We have an '84 Kaufman 47. These boats were built in Taiwan which for some boats, like ours, the yards were very capable. The builders could have designed, cast, and built this unit. I have a small manual windlass in the garage that looks identical to old lofran windlass but has TACHIAO cast in the base.

Hope someone can identify it for you, just thought I'd share my experience.

I'm pretty sure that is a Grover Lefton Windlass.

Re: Help identifying windlass

Well, you could try Googling on 1980's windlasses, cast aluminum housings, and see what comes up.

Or, you could take that little plate off the top and have a look at what's in there, it might be well to know. Our old Simpson Lawrence had a bicycle chain. Truly. Don't laugh, they all had 'em.

Somewhere on that casting, there may be letters or numbers, if you can highlight them or post them, maybe we can help more.

Googled that but no luck. Thanks !

Btw: The little plate on top is the cover for a 3 digit counter.

It most certainly is.

Next time I see Grover I'll ask him to draw up a diagram because I'm sure there has never been one.

Re: Help identifying windlass

Looks somewhat like a Simpson-Lawrence from the 70's, but something about the top is not as I remember,
