That makes two of us. I think they whittled anchors in Roman times and then tied a rock to them.

Meanwhile, day late and dollar short yet again.

I have a Rocna bower and a Danforth kedge both ready to go.

My heirloom collection from starboard aft to frd is as follows-

Under my bunk down the back - OK its a double bed - is a Manson CQR knockoff. Unused , its been there for 20 years. I really should up summon the energy to get it out and sell it.
Under the port quarterberth is a fortress, also 20 years or so in a nice custom bag. Used once to see how it worked.

Up the front - A Western Australian 'Swarbrick' which is essentially an improved fisherman. Used to be mounted on the bow square rigger style when I had my old CQR as a bower.
Used three times - excellent on hard sand where the CQR would just bounce along the bottom.
First use was Waratah Bay, Vic.Lay to it for three days in a hard westerly gale.

Second use was on the inside of Frecinet Peninsula - opposite that horrible Wineglass Bay - Coles Bay? CQR was hopeless - but it worked.
Third time was in Chilean kelp.
Then I bought the rocna.

I would keep it and the Fortress as spare bower and kedge.

I also have a spare 70 metres of chain, and also heavy chain leader and big length of nylon for the Swarbrick.

Thats it.

I suppose this is a factor of where you sail. Highly likely Sarca designed an anchor that would be most suitable for conditions that are predominant in Australia. Conversely, I've been very happy with the performance of the Rocna, in hard sand, gravel and even thick mud. I have no illusions about it being the best choice for all conditions though. My boat came with a 45# genuine CQR, a 60# knock-off CQR and an enormous claw. I kept the genuine CQR as a back-up, tossed the rest, got the Rocna for the bower, and a Guardian stowed below. Eventually I'll invest a boat-buck to replace the CQR - originally thought of getting a Spade or equivalent, but have added Viking and Excel to the short-list.
