Can't help you on model, but bet if you take it to an auto electrics place they can fix it as I believe the motors are usually very similar to starters

Or you could take it to an elect'l motor shop and they could rewind it. Probably just as cheap, considering........

Re: Help to identify windlass

Are you in Darwin as in Darwin, Australia?

Cant help to identify the model but rewinding the electric motor should be pretty straightforward. As always, it comes down to finding the right guy..

Why did the motor burn out?

The two main things that will kill an elactric more are vibration and over stress/heating. And in a marine environment, corrosion if not properly sealed well.

I note your boat is a Muir.
Is the winch an early Muir. Though quite sure Muir never made a boat?

Gees! I hate the spell check sometimes. The word "more" is suppose to be MOTOR.

Re: Help to identify windlass

I will recheck if it is indeed a Muir hull, it has been on the hard for 7 yrs and I brought it last January , the electric motor was not going and had been open to the elements all that time with no cover or protection, I only get to work on her every Sunday and for 6 days every 4 weeks, that is when I can go look for rewind shops etc, I will post again when I have an answer or some results, thanks again for your interest everybody, cheers

Re: Help to identify windlass

It was custom made by a bloke in Maryborough who makes deck winches for trawlers. The motor had a vinyl cover on it to keep the water out.
