How to build a jinker for a monohull?

hi everyone,
I'm in the lagoon on cocos islands australia and just purchased a 34' Peterson.

I'm trying to find ways to remove it and dry dock, but the crane is not viable.

Can anyone advise where or how I can obtain a diagram for a jinker system?

I've been told I would have to get this engineer approved...

there are some old truck tyres and diffs around and I could weld one up from old metal frames and wood.

regards

Tony

It's a trailer that needs to be sunk into 2m or shallow water to then fit the vessel onto.

I then need to tow this out onto land.

cheers

Some people base them on old pickup truck frames. But you'd need to figure the loads, etc. Especially as some truck frames are stronger than others.

Sounds like an interesting adventure, but...is the boat seaworthy? If so, why not just sail it to a lift?

I would think you would start with a "lowboy" or low-bed (drop bed) trailer with the running gear already on it. If you are only going to pull it a short distance off road then you could start with a really old worn out trailer for a cheaper price. Here in the USA you can find a good used low-bed trailer for $4,000 - $6,000. A worn out one should be less.

As, I assume, you do not intend to travel too far or too fast, I think the trailer could probably a little less robust than it would need to be normally. I think I would look for an old, worthless two axle travel trailer and demo everything above the frame to start. If you are just getting out of the water directly into the place of work you don't need lights or even brakes that work. Good luck, it sounds like a fun project, but I have been a gluten for punishment for many years.

The OP is on Cocos Island in the Indian Ocean.

Adelie got it right. Discounting Indonesia, closest haulout/lift is Langkawi in Malaysia (1400 NM away) or Perth West Australia (2000 NM away), see copy of chart.
There are no facilities on Cocos Islands, barely a good boatramp.
I think Uncivilised and others are on the right track, modifying an old truck chassis, that is, IF such old chassis can be found there.
I will make some photos at my locality of how it can be done. Hmmm, one would need more than one 4WD to pull such baby onto the beach.

How about something like a "logging wheel?". Or if using
truck parts, for low speed and short haul, I've heard of desert dwellers using tires stuffed with rags rather than pressurized air.

Re: How to build a jinker for a monohull?

If finding stuff turns out to be really tough, one could build a very stout cradle, & then use telephone poles or pieces of pipe as rollers. Moving each one forwards after the boat & cradle had fully pased over it. Ancient school style.
